Requirements
Equipment Required for Each Student
For best results, a computer (such as a laptop, desktop or Chromebook) is the recommended
device for accessing the Summit Writing Learning Platform. A physical keyboard will allow the student write the most freely.
- Computer with a high-speed internet connection.
- Computer must have a screen resolution of at least 1366x768.
- We recommend the Google Chrome Browser [Click to Download].
- A minimum 1 Mbps connection (broadband recommended) is required. If using cellular-based wireless, a 4G LTE connection is needed.
- Each Student must have their own email account - your child’s assignments are linked to their unique email address.
Role of Parents
While it is our goal to have students able to use the Summit Writing Learning Platform independently,
parents are expected to help their child get set up each day until they are able to do it on their own.

- Parents will encourage and support their child as they work towards independence.
- Parents will allow their child access to a computer for at least 2-3 hours each week to complete assignments.
- Parents will be available to listen to their child’s keyword outlines each week.
- Parents will be proactive and contact the instructor if they have a question about their child’s class.
- Parents are encouraged to be 'hands-off' content (unless they notice that it is inappropriate) and helpful with structure and style (if asked).
Role of the Student
- Ability to sign-in to the Summit Writing Learning Platform.
- Basic computer knowledge, able to navigate through assignments.
- Basic typing skills, able to type their own assignments.
- Works independently to complete assignments each week.
- Make a goal for the week, and work on their assignments to meet their learning goal.
- Participate in the Forum by sharing their writing with other students.
- Participate by learning how to give encouraging feedback to others.
- Contact the instructor if they have questions about assignments.
